Apple Music adds 50% off student subscription

Apple Music screencap canvasApple Music has added a third subscription tier to its available options for listeners. It has unveiled a student membership that offers a 50% discount on the standard monthly rate. In the U.S., that means $4.99 a month. The student tier will also launch in the UK, Germany, Denmark, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Apple is working with a tech company to verify that listeners signing up for the lower rate are in fact students. However, any level of degree, including Masters programs, can take advantage of the membership. Student tiers will be available for up to four years total following sign-up, although the individual can suspend membership if they take a semester off.

This is the second big announcement centered on the Cupertino camp this week. Apple is also expected to introduce a redesign of its music app at next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
