Vevo nearing a deal with Warner

Vevo logo July 2016Vevo and Warner Music Group may be nearing a deal that will see the label’s artists appearing on the video platform. According to Billboard, the agreement will see Warner artists’ music videos added to Vevo.com and the Vevo mobile app. However, the negotiations seem to exclude creating Vevo-branded YouTube channels for artists on the label. The deal, which is more than a year in the works, could be finalized as early as this week.

WMG had been a long-time holdout from joining Vevo, which began as a joint venture between the other two majors. Sony Music Entertainment and Universal Music Group still have ownership in Vevo, as do Abu Dhabi Media and Google. Vevo CEO Erik Huggers has discussed the possibility of launching a subscription tier to the video hosting and distribution service. It has experimented with multiple redesigns on the product side, and the addition of Warner’s artists would expand the music available on those platforms.
