In Nielsen’s recently released Audio Today 2023 bundle of research, we are not surprised to learn that AM/FM listening remains top of the time-spent audio sources. Among all U.S. adults 18 years and older, radio reaches 91% percent. The domination is decisive; the next highest reach belongs to YouTube Music with 29%.
Interestingly, Nielsen digs into the source of AM/FM listening, and finds that 20% of radio’s reach is delivered by digital streams.
Meanwhile, podcast listening in this 2023 report shows interesting growth from a year ago. We especially note the rise in heavy listening — the share of time spent listening over 10 hours per week rose 50%, from six percent of respondents to nine percent:
