TuneIn deepens sports portfolio with extensive college basketball deal

TuneIn_Logo_2000px copy NEW LOGO 2014TuneIn has built a powerful differentiation in sports streaming this year, and today announced another notch in its belt. The streaming platform has partnered with IMG and Learfield Sports to carry broadcasts of 85 men’s college basketball teams, including top-ranked programs Kentucky, Arizona, Wisconsin, Duke, Kansas, Florida, Louisville, and Texas.

TuneIn has made it a mission to provide out-of-market streaming coverage of college sports, with the understanding that many fans live outside of the markets where they built their loyalties to college teams.

TuneIn’s dedication to sports extends beyond the college realm. Following are some of the initiatives the company has announced this year:

  1. TuneIn pushes sports advantage with IMG deal (this one is football)
  2. Coverage of the final World Cup game in Brazil
  3. March Madness streaming results
  4. NCAA basketball with Westwood One

“Sports listening on TuneIn continues to grow exponentially, and we are constantly working to add more key content for sports fans to follow on the go and fit their active mobile lifestyle,” said Kevin Straley, VP of Programming at TuneIn.

TuneIn claims 50-million active monthly users. Measuring college football listening this season to date, 4.2-million unique listeners have heard 2.4-million hours.

  1. I live near the PA / NJ border. Penn State is with LearfieldNet. Am I considered OM even though PSU has a (football, not guaranteed to have men’s hoops) radio affil in Allentown PA?
