Digital distributor TuneCore reported that in the third quarter of 2015, artist payments rose 6.1% to $34.7 million. The quarterly payments fell lightly from the Q2 period, which was also lower than the year’s Q1. However, the figures from this quarter bring total artist earnings to $600 million since 2006. The represented artists also had 3.6 billion streams and downloads during the period, marking a 90% increase year-over-year. Artists on the TuneCore roster are generating 1.2 billion streams per month.
In addition to the quarterly update, TuneCore announced that it is opening an office in Atlanta. The new location will be led by Phillana Williams, who previously served as executive vice president at Stealth Sports & Entertainment, and has past credentials with Motown Records, Island Def Jam, and Sony Music Group.
“TuneCore is constantly striving to help artists around the world get their music heard and earn what they deserve, and the opening of our Atlanta office reaffirms our commitment to that goal,” CEO Scott Ackerman said of the expansion.
