Thailand is slated to hear digital radio beginning in 2018. The country’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission said it plans to launch digital radio next year. It projected that guidelines will be finalized before starting a nationwide trial. The initial tests of DAB+ broadcasts began in Bangkok in March 2013.
Several southeast Asian nations are in the midst of similar shifts into digital radio. Indonesia launched its first DAB+ digital radio last spring. Meanwhile, uptake of the technology has been very strong in Europe and in Australia. Norway was the first country to make a full transition from FM to digital for its radio industry in January.
