Germany’s music industry body, BVMI, has released a mid-year report with positive results for streaming. During the first half of 2016, streaming secured a 24.4% share of the German music market, beating out the 14% share for downloads. Revenue from both subscription and ad-supported streaming increased 88% on-year. All digital sources account for 39.6% of the market, growing from the 30.9% share at the end of 2015.
CDs are still the top choice for German listeners, and the format holds a 52.3% share of the market. Sales of CDs did decline 9.6%, continuing the downward trend of the previous year, which showed a 4.2% drop for all physical music sales.
