Spotify launches “track IDs” curated by DJs

Spotify’s newly launched playlist feature, track IDs, is based on this question: “Do you ever dance to your favorite DJ and wonder what track they’re mixing?”

The answer is supplied by an array of 23 playlists curated by DJs and the Spotify editorial team. (Uncertain how that collaboration is managed.) With this feature, DJs can connect with fans in a new way, and listeners can discover new tracks previously unheard in a streaming service.

“It’s no secret the tracks I play are usually unreleased from whichever sounds I’m into at the time,” explains Berlin-based DJ Dixon. “Right now with the usual game on hold, this playlist feels quite personal. Of course there are the floor fillers in there, some from prior to lockdown, some that never have been tested on a dance floor. But I’m more curious to gauge the listeners’ response to the underdogs.”

The volume of music is impressive. Many of the playlists contain dozens of tracks. Spotify notes: “With dance and electronic spanning a wide range of styles and subgenres, these playlists allow fans to listen to music for every bpm, from house and techno to electronica and chill.”

The playlists are laid out HERE in the web interface. In mobile use the Search function with “track ID.”
