Spotify launches reach-based podcast awards; six shows receive inaugural recognition

Spotify has launched the Creator Milestone Awards to honor successful podcasts. (We find it interesting that — although this ambiguously titled program could be a music award — it is assumedly for podcasts. What a mighty category podcasting has become in the world’s largest streaming service.)

Anyway, this is about metrics — no quality judgment in this recognition. The winners are ranked by number of Spotify streams. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards are bestowed, Olympics style.  Any show which reaches a streaming threshold is recognized for the corresponding award.

Here are the inaugural winners:

GOLD (50o million streams):

  • Crime Junkie
  • The Joe Rogan Experience

SILVER (250 million streams

  • Dateline NBC
  • Stuff You Should Know

BRONZE (100 million streams)

  • Rotten Mango
  • David Fell in Love With a Stripper

Recipients receive a “hand-delivered physical Spotify plaque” and will be spotlighted in Spotify. Some kind of splash will be put into New York City’s Penn Plaza.
