Spotify began rolling out a new update to its desktop listening platform this week. The big change is the addition of lyrics. This feature is powered by Musixmatch, and you can access the lyrics by clicking the new button next to the play bar.
Lyrics seem to be of interest for streaming services interested in adding some extra value. In December, both Deezer and Google made pushes to integrate song lyrics into the listening experience.
Spotify’s other desktop improvements include tweaks to the Friend Feed for better user experience. The company also introduced daily viral charts, one for the listener’s region and one global. These track the most-shared songs and their play counts. These updates will be rolling out gradually to all desktop users over the coming weeks.
