In joint press release, Spotify and The Echo Nest announced this morning that Spotify has acquired The Echo Nest. The Echo Nest execs also collaboratively posted a blog entry about the deal.
Spotify is a leading interactive, on-demand music service. The Echo Nest is the leading music intelligence tech company, providing technology that powers song recommendations to over 400 listening platforms.
In any acquisition of a solution provider by one of its clients, the question is whether the provider (The Echo Nest) will operate autonomously, and continue serving its external business relationships. A first, public answer to that question is embedded in the press release: “The Echo Nest API will remain free and open to support its robust developer ecosystem. The developer community is crucial to the success of both Spotify and The Echo Nest and will remain a priority for the combined companies.”
