We watched the Serial podcast break into the audio scene and rise in popularity to secure a huge listener base and professional accolades. Now the program, originally an offshoot of This American Life, is on the verge of crossing format borders and becoming a television show.
Writer/producer duo Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (who worked on The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street) picked up the rights to the podcast and then approached FOX 21 Studios with the idea. According to early reports, the TV program will be about the making of the podcast as it investigates a new case. The podcast is slated to return with a new season in the fall, and it’s unsure yet whether the Fox production team will be assembled in time to cover that case, or whether it will have to wait for the spring 2016 season.
