Backing Away

Spotify plans to shut down its service in Uruguay in January. This decision after the government changed the country’s copyright laws. In an explanatory article penned by Daniel AJ Sokolov, Senior Editorial Correspondent at Heise Medien, ambiguities in the new licensing system make it unclear who is responsible for certain uses. “Because it is unclear who exactly should pay, Spotify fears that the law will force them to pay a second time […] so Spotify is forced to stop its service in Uruguay,” Sokolov writes. It’s A Wrap
