Supporters Support

Edison Research has released an interesting and highly focused bit of research. Examining Premier League (football/soccer) podcasts and their audiences, Edison reveals the value of pertinent and dedicated listener groups. As illustrated below, we see that the reach of four fooyball podcasts in the general audience is ranked and compared to the same shows’ reach among team supporters. Interestingly, the podcasts shown with spectacular fan-based reach outperform shows by established corporations or brands. More details HERE.

Targeting 1,000,000,000 (One Hundred Billion)

Music business analysis company MIDiA Research is announcing its annual Music Forecasts Report, predicting fiscal probabilities through 2032. It is subtitled “Recalibration,” and its heft carries a central outlook: “The recorded music market will pass the $100 billion mark in 2030, driven by a diverse revenue mix..” The graph below charts that growth. MIDiA admits that the bold number is “the maximalist view.” Those preferring a more conservative outlook (a “more minimalist view,” says co-author and MIDiA Managing Director Mark Mulligan) is $51.2 billion. Key pivot points include:

  • A shift away from the west
  • New DSP power dynamics
  • New outlook for add supported streaming
  • Rapid rise of AI

The full report (of which this summary is barely a glimpse) is HERE. It’s an 83-pager. Buckle up.
