Pureplay of the Day: Slow Radio

Slow RadioPop music has long been the refuge of both the deliriously smitten and the devastatedly heartbroken. Billing itself as “the #1 love song station on the net,” Slow Radio is the place to find musical voice for whatever state your romantic life is in.

The song selections are mostly in comfortable easy listening territory, focusing on pop tunes from the 80s to now. For a sample, we heard songs by Ariana Grande, Olivia Newton John, Michael Buble, Michael Jackson, and the Backstreet Boys. Some rock ballads (Inxs, U2) and blues tunes (Robert Cray Band, Eric Clapton) also cycled through the playlist. The service is based in Europe, and a quick skim of its artist bios showed a nice global balance. In fact, we heard the single by Silke Mastbooms, a Flemish singer who was runner-up in Belgium’s rendition of talent competition The Voice.

Slow Radio has a simple web player. It shows the most recent nine tracks as well as the currently playing one, a feature we always appreciate. If you prefer an external player, Slow Radio supports Winamp, Windows Media Player, Real Player, and Quick Time. It also has a mobile player for on-the-go options.

The site has some artist bios and news items, but the focus is more on the tunes and setting a mood.
