Podtrac’s podcast publisher rankings don’t usually show much variance from month to month, but June 2017 marked the arrival of two new companies. ESPN debuted at No. 5 on the list with an audience of 3.5 million uniques in the U.S. Wondery also marked its debit, with an audience of 2.6 million U.S. uniques propelling it No. 7 on the chart.
ESPN recently announced a podcast version of its popular 30 for 30 video series. That program was announced in May and debuted in June. Wondery has been backing podcast projects across a range of topics and ideas for years. It offers a blend of original shows and hosted programs from other content creators.
Other entries in the June publisher rankings showed little change. Six of the top 10 publishers in June 2017 were also on the June 2016 list, and all of them showed a spike in U.S. audience numbers. Last month’s top performers saw a 13% increase in total global unique streams and downloads over May 2017.
