NPR top publisher, “The Daily” top podcast in Podtrac August rankers

In a new release schedule, Podtrac is distributing the Top Podcasts and Top Podcast Publishers rankers simultaneously today. (Scroll down to see both.)

In the Top Podcasts list, we see a general month-over-month stability. Only one newly placed show appears: Nice White Parents from The New York Times. As is often the case with powerful publishers, that new podcast benefited from cross-promotion in the very popular feed of The Daily, and in the NYT online subscription version of the newspaper.  In other words, as in other media categories, success breeds success.

Seven shows remained in their July ranking spots. RadioLab moved up four spots, and TED Talks Daily shifted down six spots for August.

Among top podcast publishers, NPR and iHeartRadio continued their 1/2 dance with NPR taking the #1 slot this month by a sliver. Each of those behemoths has about twice the accumulated audience across its shows as The New York Times, which owns the #3 spot. (About 27-million for NPR, 26-million for iHeartRadio, and 13-million for NYT.)

Here are the two rankers:
