Kickstarter has hired Molly Neuman as its head of music. Neuman steps into the newly created role from A2IM, where she was interim president following the departure of Rich Bengloff. Neuman was a founding board member for A2IM and has performed as a member of Bratmobile, The Frumpies, and the PeeChees.
The crowdfunding trend for music appears to have recently hit a stabilization point. Artists and fans are familiar with the technology, and the platforms have created enough infrastructure to ensure that the transactions can happen smoothly. Adding a new high-level leader to the management team shows that Kickstarter isn’t just looking to remain static in music. Especially with Neuman’s experience on both sides of the coin, she may be able to help the platform to offer fresh takes on how the music business can engage with fans and supporters.
