Luminary Media has been building lots of buzz even before it has launched. Now, Hot Pod is reporting that the new podcast network is targeting a debut on April 23. That would be a faster timeline than had previously been hinted at for the new business, with earlier coverage indicating that the launch would happen by June. The Luminary app will roll out to the United States, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
When it does officially open to listeners, Luminary will be pursuing a strategy of subscription listening with lots and lots of content. It said in March that more than 40 creators would be providing podcasts at launch. The company raised $40 million in May 2018 to support its vision as “the Netflix of podcasts,” and has secured more than $100 million total. The pricing structure is expected to be $8 a month to access its collection of exclusive shows without advertising.
