Every now and then, Spotify throws open the door into its vault of fascinating data about its listeners. Today, its numbers have turned the most benign small talk topic into something fascinating.
Thanks to a partnership with Accuweather, Spotify has disclosed how the weather influences listening. The results may not be all that surprising, but the volume of quantifiable data backing up anecdotal experience is really cool. People do in fact listen to tunes that are bouncy and higher energy when it’s sunny, and they turn to sadder-sounding tracks when it rains. Rainy days were also linked to more acoustic sounds and “sophisticated” moods.
The blog post shares some graphs of city-specific responses and audio trends. Or you can go to Spotify’s Climatune page and explore the results for yourself.
