Gimlet Media launches film/TV division

Podcast company Gimlet Media has added a unit for film and television. Gimlet Pictures will be led by Chris Giliberti. The new division creates a home for the three projects Gimlet has already launched in film and TV, and will oversee any future developments in that same vein.

The podcast StartUp has been optioned into an ABC show called Alex, Inc., which premieres on March 28. Amazon is creating a show based on the fictional podcast Homecoming. An episode of Reply All was spun out into a feature film by Annapurna Pictures and Team Downey titled Man of the People.

“The goal here is to play a greater role in extending our Gimlet sensibility and story craftsmanship to the audiences we reach in other formats,” Giliberti said. “On the heels of these [three] projects, we feel prepared to take a bigger bet on TV and film, both in terms of number of projects but also in terms of depth of participation across the development and production process.”
