Edison releases Top 50 Podcasts, distinguished by survey method

Edison Research has released its Top 50 Podcasts in the U.S. for Q2 2024. (HERE.) You’ll never guess which is #1. (It’s The Joe Rogan Experience, as usual in this list.)

Edison rankers stand apart from ranking lists that count server-side mechanical events such as downloads and streams. Edison’s work conveys reach, using live surveying (in English and Spanish for this report). The key benefit is that any podcast may appear in an Edison ranker, if it’s got enough reach.

“Edison Podcast Metrics™ is the only podcast measurement service that measures listening, not downloads, across all networks, shows, and platforms,” the company states.

That said, Rogan is generally known as the most successful podcaster, at least in the U.S. It is a monster — but Edison does not quantify success with numerical metrics. It’s survey recognizes podcasts that respondents have listened to in the last week, and does not extrapolate an audience or download number.
