Edison Research has released its U.S. Top Podcast Genres, By Reach list, representing U.S. listening over four quarters: Q2/2021 through Q1-2022. Comedy is atop the ranker, followed by News and Society & Culture in the #3 spot.
Worth noting that the Comedy genre is populated partly by interview podcasts which self-select the Comedy category, but whose shows are not primarily comedic. WTF with Marc Maron is an example. Currently, the #1 show in Apple’s U.S. Comedy list is Morbid: A True Crime Podcast. (The show’s description mentions “a dash of comedy thrown in for flavor.”
