BBC Sounds app in Q2: nearly 4M users, 300M+ plays

BBC Sounds, the digital player app produced by and representing the BBC, released a brief Q2 metrics report. The deck is free and HERE. In it, some key observations:

  • Total of 335-million plays of all content across radio, podcasts, and music mixes.
  • Average weekly audience: 3.7-million. Peak weekly audience: 3.9-million.
  • A total of 146-million plays of on-demand radio and podcasts.
  • A total of 4-million plays of music mixes.

Interestingly, 66% of hours listened were spent with live radio; 34% went to on-demand listening. That statistic skews more evenly when measuring plays (not hours), where the balance is 55%/45% live over on-demand.
