YouTube Music to get new leader for EMEA

YouTube Music has hired a former Warner Music Group exec to head its operations in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Dan Chalmers is reportedly moving to YouTube later this year. He is current the president of Warner’s ADA independent services and distribution branch in the UK. He will report to YouTube Global Head of Music Lyor Cohen.

YouTube’s latest effort to bring a dedicated music service into the mainstream has been a mixed bag so far. YouTube Music has been growing its international footprint this year, rolling out to several European markets, Latin America, South America, and India. In addition, the platform has been getting more support on smart speakers, and is now available on Sonos and Google Assistant devices.

  1. I tried out the app recently. I don’t like it. I prefer music and video streaming separately.

    • Sis, keep the app for me, at least. I like the combo of audio and video in one app. Also, there is the possibility that Google will carry over the upload ability from Google Play Music.

      • What I’m looking into is music lockers. I want to put songs I’ve ripped from CDs into the cloud. Amazon did away with that recently and I’m worried that Apple and Google will follow suit.

        • If Google decides to carry over their upload ability, it’s very generous – a limit of 50,000 songs.

Your other option is something like Google Drive. 15 GB is free. For more storage, they have paid plans.

          • Because we don’t do a lot of traveling, it would be better to do most of our streaming on PC.
