YouTube Music is adding a new feature that will automatically download tracks that a listener is most likely to enjoy. The Smart Downloads feature is on the Android app, and it downloads up to 500 songs that the user has liked. It will take the first 100 tracks from the Offline Mixtape, a playlist generated based on listening history. The remaining automatic downloads will be drawn from liked songs, and favorite playlists and albums.
Premium listeners to YouTube Music can make their own selections for downloads, which make the tracks available offline. Smart Downloads attempts to automate that process. You have to choose to enable the feature, which makes sense given the staorage demands of 500 videos. Users can opt to limit their number of downloads if 500 is more than they want to manage or store. The downloads will happen overnight while the device is connected to wifi.
