YouTube is joining the ranks of music services offering special deals for students. The new student subscriptions are $4.99 a month for access to YouTube Music Premium and $6.99 a month for YouTube Premium. Those services usually cost $9.99 or $11.99 per month, respectively. The video platform is making its YouTube Premium available for even less, $5.99 a month, to students who sign up by January 31, 2019. The program is available to full-time students in the United States and will roll out to other markets in the future.
Lower-cost student subscriptions are common for most music streaming services. Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music Unlimited all offer options for students who want to access the paid versions of those platforms at a reduced price.
