YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki penned a blog post wrapping up 2016 for the video platform. She summarized the many business developments YouTube embarked on last year, including some notable projects for music and musicians. She shared the company’s recent milestones of $2 billion in payouts from the Content ID monetization program over the past five years and the $1 billion in advertising payouts in the past 12 months.
Wojcicki also mentioned a few of the planned actions for 2017. One upcoming project is international expansion for the YouTube Red subscription. The service rolled out in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, and South Korea in the past year. She didn’t share which countries would be added to the roster this year, but we’ll be on the lookout for those announcements.
