RealNetworks has released its 2014 financial data, and it includes a snapshot of the performance for Rhapsody. Rhapsody posted net revenue of $173.48 million in 2014 with a net loss of $21.34 million for the year ending Dec.31. Both figures increased from 2013, when the revenue totaled just $140.6 million and the net loss was $14.66 million. There were no figures given specifically for the fourth quarter. In each three-month update for 2014 (see the second quarter here and the third quarter here), Rhapsody posted higher numbers for both revenue and losses.
The company owns 43% of the streaming service through a joint venture with Viacom’s MTV Networks. RealNetworks’ share decreased in the fourth quarter after issuing common stock to a new partner. As of February, Rhapsody reported having 2.5 million subscribers.
