Japan is getting another streaming platform. Rakuten Music is the newest release from ecommerce business Rakuten, and it aims to be a “one-stop music service.” The mobile service offers a library of 3 million items and includes product placement for CDs and music DVDs/Blu-Rays sold through Rakuten Books.
Rakuten Music gives new subscribers one month free, then has two paid tiers. The Light Plan includes 20 hours of streaming for 500 yen ($4.94) a month, while the unlimited Standard Plan costs 980 yen ($9.69). Payments made with Apple IDs rather than with Rakuten’s own system are 600 yen ($5.93) and 1,080 yen ($10.68), respectively.
