We thought it would be interesting to make a list of lists — specifically, year-end top-10 lists of best True Crime podcasts, 2024. True Crime is a venerable podcast category, one progenitor of which was the Serial podcast.
There is no editorializing on our part. The goal is to compare the editorializing of five other publications, each of which recently published a best-of list for True Crime:
FORBES (HERE)
VOGUE (HERE)
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (HERE)
NEW YORK POST (HERE)
RSS.COM (HERE)
The five list sources above were chosen quickly by scraping the first five Google results for “best true crime podcasts 2024.”
RAIN is not doing the judging. Instead, we took the lists from our chosen publications and assembled them into a chart for easy comparison.
The Apple and Edison columns represent measured lists of popular shows by Apple Podcasts and Edison Research (for Q3 2024). Those lists are derived from ALL podcasts. The rightmost column shows Google Search results for the search query: “Top true crime podcasts.”

Interesting to note that in the Edison Research column, which represents Edison’s survey-derived list of all top podcasts, only two of them fit into the True Crime category.
Also interesting: Of Apple’s top ten crime podcasts, four are not represented in any of the other lists.
