Jottings of note:

Annoyances Solved

Alex Goldman, who built public recognition as the 5-year host of WNYC Radio’s nationally sydicated show On the Media, has taken a new challenge. He is bringing to market a new podcast called Hyperfixed in partnership ith Radiotopia / PRX. It is a weekly exploration of life problems and annoyances, and solutions to them. “Maybe it’s just a quiet annoyance you’ve grudgingly learned to put up with, or a life defining issue that makes it hard to move forward,” the pre-launch promo says. “Whatever it is, Alex Goldman — reporter, radio producer, and overconfident idiot — will get to the bottom of it (if there’s a bottom to be found).” Listener submissions (of life’s dilemmas) are welcome, at HyperfixedPod.com. Full-RSS launch starts Thursday of this week — sort of. Oddly, only two episodes are planned for that drop “as an introduction.” Resumption will happen later, but we are not told when. The full PR is HERE.

Seeking 2.0

Sam Sethi, Chief Evangelist of the Podcast Standards Project, has announced Podcamp in London, scheduled for May 21-22 next year in London. The Podcast Standards Project supports standards and practices that improve the open podcasting ecosystem for listeners and creators. Central to that mission is Podcasting 2.0, a movement which seeks best practices and technology solutions which benefir audiences, developers, and podcasters. We do not see a registration page for the event, yet. Sethi notes: “I’ve tried and been ignored for over 2 years by Podcast Movement and The London Podcast Show when asking them to include a Podcasting 2.0 tech track. Instead, all we get at these big events are presentations on how to make money from advertising or YouTube.”

Live At Scale

The Acquired podcast produced a live stage recording of an episode — in what could be described as Major League scale for podcasting. The date brought 6,000 fans to the Chase Center in San Francisco. Podcast host Transistor, where Acquired is hosted, wrote up the experience, calling it “surreal.” Spotify Founder/CEO Daniel Ek was the key speaker in this special episode; Ek evangelized Spotify’s role in fostering the growth of podcast listening — he described Spotify’s key tactic of combing music and spoken-word in a single app experience. “Talk is cheap,” Ek stated, “and I mean that as a virtue. Building is expensive.” A full write-up with photos and video is HERE.
