Jottings of note:

AM in the Dash

We learn from Radio Ink of new energy in the radio industry’s fight to keep AM receivers in cars. At the heart of the fight between car makers and the American radio industry is the AM for Every Vehicle act — a piece of proposed legislation that would mandate AM radios in new cars. As that bill slowly gains support, audomakers “doubled down on efforts to block it,” according to RI’s report. The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has spent nearly three million dollars in its lobbying effort. Radio and audio juggernaut iHeartMedia is pitching in, and has reportedly spent $1.4 million on the effort. Automakers are throwing money into the debate also. “From dashboard access to AI disruption, ownership rules to federal funding, broadcasters are navigating a Washington agenda that’s moving faster and cutting deeper than ever,” the article states. More details, including expenditures by individual carmakers, HERE.

Elevation

Mat Hird announces that he is now Vice President at podcast audience service and research company Signal Hill Insights. He elevates to that position from the previous role of Senior Research Director. Hird rejoined Signal Hill in mid-2023, arriving from a one-year stint as a senior research analyst at the CBC. That followed his first dance with Signal Hill — he was a freelance consultant in a four-year span from 2017 to 2022.
