Symphonic Link at SXSW
As symphony orchestras worldwide embrace video game music, concerts featuring these scores have become instrumental in attracting diverse and younger audiences to classical performances. That’s he basis of a SXSW 2025 session called Power Up: The Art of Video Game Music. Produced by classical radio station KMFA, in collaboration with chamber orchestra and new music collective Density512, the session reveals a trend which introduces new listeners to orchestral music and also highlights the evolving landscape of audience engagement in the classical music world. Live concert performances are part of the event, and a live recording session of music by composer Virginia Leo.
Black Americans Listen More
“You don’t have to think back very far to reflect on how much Black Americans have contributed to audio content, especially music,” 0bserves Edison Research. “What we don’t often talk about is the parallel contribution from Black Americans on the consumer side.” That observation sets up a research snippet in Edison’s Weekly Insights series: Black Listeners’ Impact on Audio. It turns out that Black Americans listening to 30 minutes more audio daily (in the 13+ cohort). This comes from Edison’s renowned Share of Ear research project.
