Jottings of note:

Good Or Bad?

Will AI do harm or good for the audio industry in 2024? That question from audio ad agency Oxford Road, and they turn to podcast consultant and Amplifi Media founder Steve Goldstein for an answer in a video conversation. “There’s a reason ‘authenticity’ was the word of 2023,” Steve says. CEO Dan Granger hosts the hour-long conversation in his Media Roundtable video series. See it HERE.

Sorting Down Under

Triton Digital has released its Australian Podcast Ranker. It measures the top 200 podcasts (from Triton measurement clients) based on consumption by Australians. The online interactive presentation allows sorting, so the list can be configured according to listeners, downloads, publishers, and sales representation. You can also group results by publisher or sales, to get a ranking within that grouping. Any custom mix can be exported as a PDF. It is HERE.

Challenging Landscape

Amazon-owned audiobook and podcast platform Audible is laying off five percent of its staff, totalling about 100 people according to Publishers Weekly. In an internal memo, CEO Bob Carrigan claimed the business is “in good shape,” but noted “an increasingly challenging landscape.” (We’ve sure heard a lot about landscapes recently.) PW notes that the audiobook category is “on the rise,” but that Spotify’s entry in the space poses a threat in 2024. Read more HERE.
