Quick Hits: U.K.’s top-40 chart adds streaming; America’s Soundtrack

Brief news items and worthwhile reads from around the web:

U.K. top-40 chart includes first streaming input: We reported last month that the leading top-40 chart in the U.K., compiled by The Official Chart Company, would begin including streaming data in July. True to that timeline, the new hits chart dos incorporate streaming counts. The formula is that 100 streams equates to a track purchase. Ariana Grande is the inaugural number-one in the new system. America’s Soundtrack: We learned on the Evolver music blog about America’s Soundtrack, which uses technology from The Echo Nest (owned by Spotify) to create an interactive timeline of American History, commemorated in song. The timeline contains 30-second excerpts, and there is also a full playlist on Spotify. (America’s Soundtrack)
