Pureplay of the Day: The Oscars Radio

oscar 200wThe Oscars Radio is the perfect weekend station leading up to the Academy Awards on Sunday night. This pureplay features songs that were featured in Oscar-winning movies. More than that, the stream includes presentations and acceptance speeches leading into those songs. The effect is exciting, and shines a different light on the songs. Soon after tuning in we heard Cuba Gooding, Jr.’s famous (infamous?), unstoppable “I love you” acceptance rampage for Jerry Maguire.

Also enhancing the music are movie posters that change with the songs, thanks to a capability in the Radionomy platform upon which this station is built. Scott Fleischer of Radionomy told us, “I think that it is an example of how a radio station differs from a music service playlist … the ability to modify cover art to include something like a movie poster.”

Also thanks to custom Radionomy work, the station can be embedded, YouTube-like, into a Web page. Hence (trumpet flourish), a POTD first — you can listen to The Oscars Radio right on this page. (You can also go to the station website here.)
