One of the first attractions of Pinguin Radio is the relatively high MP3 bitrate stream — 320kb. Not all ears will hear the difference, but we appreciate the choice, in addition to a standard 128kb bitrate stream.
Another good feature is the easy launch of the stream (in a pop-up player) from the station website. You’d think that would be an obvious universal function, but it’s surprising how many pureplay make it difficult to tune in.
And then, the music. Pinguin is a Dutch station that brings a sometimes eclectic, occasionally international mix into its stream. We heard Electric Six, Glass Animals, Jack Garrett, El Guincho, Django Django, Paulusma, and others. A recent hour’s playlist included Young Dreams, Angus & Julia Stone, Cure, Kasabian, Jack White, and James Brown.
The high-bitrate streaming was flawless in our testing, and the music kept us interested and energized. Try it.
