Pureplay of the Day: BeatlesRadio.com

BeatlesRadioThe whole world is celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Beatles performing on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, considered the start of Beatlemania. Well, part of the world, anyway, and mostly people of a certain age.

Anyway, today’s POTD is Beatles Radio (www.beatlesradio.com), an online station with a self-explanatory focus. Use the pop-out Beatles Radio player to listen, while prowling through the site’s added features. There’s an Abbey Road webcam, and a NewsBeat section which yields some fascinating treasures for those who dig in. Our discoveries included a SoundCloud audio interview with John Lennon from 1968, and a memoir from Tommy Roe, who opened a concert for the Beatles.

Of course you can buy the albums through the station’s website, and shop for other Fab-Four merchandise.

The music is mostly originals, with occasional covers thrown in. We heard a Dylanesque “Nowhere Man” recorded by Paul Westerberg.
