On the Move: Changes at Vevo, Warner/Chappell, and Universal Music UK

On the Move tracks hires, promotions, and other notable personnel changes within the online audio industry.

Vevo turns to BBC for content head: Vevo announced that Andy Parfitt will be its interim head of content and programming. Parfitt joins from BBC. “In addition to running Radio 1 he also played critical roles of bringing BBC Radio into the digital world,” CEO Erik Huggers said in an internal email to Vevo staff. Since the news came from an inside announcement, we have no word yet as to why this is an interim appointment or whether it could become a permanent position for Parfitt.

Warner/Chappell has a new CEO: Jon Platt will be assuming the top post at Warner/Chappell, succeeding previous CEO Cameron Strang. Platt, who was serving as the company’s North American president, will assume the new assignment effective Nov. 1. Strang will still be on Warner Music Group’s board of directors and will continue as chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Records.

New audience director for UK Universal: Universal Music UK has promoted Jack Fryer to the role of director of audience research and planning. Fryer was previously the branch’s head of insight. “Audience understanding is absolutely at the core of our offering, but we need to bring a range of other approaches and skills to the table too,” he said. “I look at our project list and it’s brilliantly broad: from pure research work right through to marketing planning, brand strategy and innovation.”
