NuVoodoo explores smart speaker stats in latest study and webinar

The NuVoodoo Ratings Prospects Study is sharing its latest statistics about smart speaker ownership and use in an upcoming webinar. The advanced results found that although ownership is still on the rise, people are encountering challenges with the voice assistants, particularly for use with radio.

The study found that smart speaker pentration has reached 43% as of January 2019, up from 33% in the same month of 2018. Among device owners, listening to regional FM radio was the second most common response, with a 39% share of the answers. AM radio listening had a 14% share. However, 46% of speaker owners said they agreed with the statement “I’ve had problems when asking smart speakers to play one of my favorite AM or FM stations.”

“The good news is that more homes have Smart Speakers — and that’s a huge opportunity for radio and for those who are smart enough to optimize their brands’ positioning on them,” NuVoodoo President and CEO Carolyn Gilbert said.

Streaming was also a popular use for smart speakers, although the study broke out percentages for different services. Spotify took a 33% share, followed by Pandora and Amazon Music, each with 27%. Podcast listening took 14% of the responses.
