May podcast production deepens 2024 slide; episode volume remains strong

New podcast production established a four-month slide in May, after a strong start of the year. 9,600 new shows were released in May, compared to 14,593 in April. Back in January slightly more than 20,000 new podcasts were unleashed. All of this is according to the latest monthly reporting from Listen Notes (HERE). See below:

 

May’s production was the lowest over 12 months.

New episode volume remains high over four years (2020-2023) when measured annually, while remaining fairly stable. About 29-million new episodes were released in 2023. Also in that year, about 228,000 new podcasts were launched.
