Apple hires veteran podcast executive, bolstering its audio and podcast efforts

Collin CampbellApple, which sparked mainstream adoption of podcasting in 2005 when it added podcasts to the iTunes music player, has hired an epochal early mover to bolster its contemporary podcast effort. Raiding audio giant NPR, Apple has hired Collin Campbell, reportedly to strengthen Apple’s podcast platform. He takes the sweeping title of Director of Audio at Apple News.

He was SVP, Podcasting Strategy and Franchise Development at the radio network. (He joined NPR from a previous position at Gimlet, as we reported in 2023 HERE.)

Campbell’s extensive resume includes positions at AOL Time Warner (back in the day: 1997-2000), WNYC (two stints totalling six years), LAist, Audible, Spotify (in the Gimlet division), and NPR (SVP, Podcasting Strategy).

We find neither word nor rumor about potential replacements for Campbell at NPR.
