TuneIn ventures into social media; partners with Discord and its 200M user base

“There’s a new way to listen to music, podcasts, and news with your friends,” gaming and community platform Discord proclaims on its Twitter account. That new way is venerable streaming platform TuneIn.

This partnership is TuneIn’s first collaboration with a social platform, and the deal might help TuneIn reach a larger audience than its current monthly user count of 75-million. Discord accommodates 200-million users.

Much of TuneIn’s cross-category library will be available to Discord users — streaming AM/FM, news, podcasts, and the platform’s impressive array of sports. All the same, the Discord/TuneIn experience will be “highly curated for Discord,” according to TuneIn CEO Rich Stern.

Stern seems to be eager for more hook-ups, as quoted in TechCrunch: “Our mission is to bring radio everywhere our listeners are, and that includes more partnerships with smart home devices, social platforms and automotive manufacturers to power the in-vehicle entertainment experience.”
