Streaming secures 38% of Swiss music market

Switzerland flag canvasSwitzerland’s music market saw continued digital growth in 2015, even as the overall performance declined. Total revenue for the market last year was 81.8 million Swiss francs, down 3.5% from the previous year, according to the IFPI. The digital market increased 7% to 39.9 million francs, a positive turn after a 3% drop in 2014.

With 30% increased annual revenue 15.3 million francs, streaming sources now account for 38% of the Swiss digital music market. Spotify, Deezer, and Apple Music are among the top streaming players in the country. The IFPI report did note that although YouTube is popular in the nation, revenue from the ad-supported streaming video was just 600,000 francs, less than 1% of the market. Download revenue declined 4% for the year, generating 24.6 million francs.
