The tests are occurring in Canberra and Darwin, and are being led by Commercial Radio Australia. The trials happening in the capital city of Canberra include the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the Special Broadcasting Service, with hope for community services to eventually join.

DAB+ has already got an audience of more than 3 million in Australia’s five main metropolitan cities. The Aussie government has recommended efforts to expand the technology to the country’s non-urban areas. CRA CEO Joan Warner noted that work is underway to plan the first meeting of the Digital Radio Planning Committee for Regional Australia along with her discussion of the recent trial extensions.
