BVDW, the German digital economy federation, released a report on the traction of online radio and streaming in the nation. The data showed that gross investment in audio streaming is projected to increase by more than 50% in 2015, while gross revenue from in-stream advertising is expected to reach about 137 euros by next year, compared with revenue of 65 million euros in 2013.
In addition to the financial numbers looking promising, the responses from audio publishers revealed satisfaction about their audience numbers. The report found that 71% of online radio broadcasters were either satisfied or very satisfied with their listening figures. Mobile and car listening look to be strong movers in the German market, with 66% of online radio broadcasters expecting mobile broadband availability to bolster Internet radio use and 69% of providers anticipating a significant boost in car use of online audio through 2017.
As of summer 2014, there were 2,021 audio services and 2,670 online radio streams in the country. That included 1,711 pure web radio services and 256 FM and DAB broadcasters streaming their content.
