Music analytics and measurement company Luminate has released its annual year-end music report. The 2025 edition highlights a record-breaking year for the global music industry, and documents the surging popularity of Latin music.
We learn that of a new record for global streams, at 5.1 trillion — that’s a nearly ten percent rise from 2024. In the U.S., streaming grew 4.6 percent, to 1.4 trillion.
The report identifies the dominant markets as U.S., Mexico, and Brazil, which together represents 2.86 trillion streams in this study.
The genre stars with highest growth were Rock, Christian, and Latin — they were the fastest growing types by share. Christian music treaming grew a whoppin 18.5%, while Rck grew 6.4%.
Something of a vinyl renaissance is documented, as sales grew for the 19th straight year, rising 8.6%. (That’s 48 million units.)
Looking at albums, something remarkable happened in 2025: Two individual albums surpassed five million units in the year. They were Life of a Showgirl (Taylor Swift) and I’m the Problem (Morgan Wallen).
The top track in 2025, globally, was “Die With a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars — 3.86 billion streams.
A final interesting data point: 106,000 new tracks were uploaded to digital services every day (on average) in 2025, a seven percent increase year-over-year.
