Pride and Petulance
Joe Rogan, whose self-titled podcast (The Joe Rogan Experience) is generally and by many measurements the most successful U.S.-made podcast, uses his podcast to unburden himself of his perspective regarding the Golden Globes podcast awards, by which he was not honored. We observe that he did not submit his show for consideration — mainly, he says, because he sisn’t want to pay the $500 submission fee. Whether in pure principle, or on behalf of cash-poor podcasters, Rogan’s quoted attitude is “I don’t want to be part of that.” Fair enough. Not without apparent petulance, though, when speaking of Globe winner Amy Poehler: “She’s had a podcast for six months and she won. Great, you gave it to a ‘famous person,’ which, you know, in that world that’s what they do.” We shy from quoting Rogan’s more scatalogical response, but it’s HERE.
Shaping the Understanding
Podcast content and sales executive Kelli Hurley has announced a position change. She remains at SiriusXM, where she has held leadership positions for four years as global head of revenue partnerships, and where she now becomes VP, Head of Content and Podcast Partnership Sales. She reflects: “I joined SiriusXM almost four years ago to build a Revenue Partnerships team, focusing on optimizing monetization of our growing creator and podcast portfolio.” Her new role has a more external direction with a focus on podcasting, creators, and the creator economy. She looks forward to “shaping how creators, partners, and the industry understands our value.”
