A win for podcast emails
Beehiiv, the small business newsletter, has published results of research which studied open rates of email newsletters across a spectrum of 20 business sectors as diverse as psychology, sports, beauty, and climate change. The study was limited to industries which produce at least 100 newsletters. Upshot: The highest open rate belongs to podcasting emails, which get opened 55.3% of the time. That doesn’t seem like a superb rate for the winning industry, but all 20 industries show open rates within the narrow range of 43% to 55%. In broad strokes it comes to this: Businesses of all sorts can expect their email newsletter to be opened about half the time. (H/T: Casey Adams, Founder, Listener.com)
Tease
Podcasting received special attention in last night’s Golden Globes ceremony, in its first year of recognition in the Hollywood spectacle. Good Hang With Amy Poehler won the inaugural award. It’s a relatively new show, having launched ten months ago. In her acceptance Poehler acknowledged that she is “new to this game,” and expressed respect for fellow nominees. “I’m big fans of all of you,” she said, and added this bit of wit: “Except for NPR! Just a bunch of celebs phoning it in. Try harder!” Poehler has previously hosted the Golden Globes ceremony four times.
